How to Reset DirecTV Remote [All Models]

If you are having trouble with your DirecTV remote, there are several steps that you can take to resolve the issue. You can try replacing the batteries, cleaning the infrared sensor, or resetting the remote. If you still have issues after changing the battery, you need to reset the DirecTV remote.

DirecTV offers two types of remote controls: the Genie Remote and the Universal Remote. The universal remote supports all DirecTV devices, while the Genie remote supports all the Genie sub-brands. The reset steps for both the Genie Remote and the Universal Remote remain the same.

Soft Reset DirecTV Remote

Soft Reset refers to pairing the remote once again to the DirecTV receiver. By pairing it aging, the previous connection will be erased along with the software issues.

#1. Press the Menu on the remote.

#2. Go to Settings and press Select.

#3. Now, go to Remote Control and press Select.

#4. Select Pair/Program Remote. Based on your setup.

#5. You may need to enter the pairing code for your remote.

Factory Reset DirecTV Stream Remote

If the soft reset is not working, you need to factory reset the remote. This will delete all the paired connections on the remote.

#1. Hold the Mute and Select buttons.

#2. Wait till the LED light on the remote flashes 3 times.

#3. Now, press 9,8,1 or 9,6,1. Then, click the Select button.

Note: You can use these codes to reset DirecTV remotes of any models like RC73, RC66RX, and RC71.

#4. The LED light will flash 4 times, and the remote will reset by now.

Pair DirecTV Remote

After the reset process, you need to pair the remote again to check if it is working or not. To pair the DirecTV Universal remote, you can follow the soft reset steps. To pair the DirecTV Genie remote, follow the below steps.

#1. Point your remote towards your Genie, Genie Mini, or Wireless Genie Mini.

#2. Press and hold the Mute and Enter at the same time.

#3. You will get the Applying IR/RF setup. This indicates that the receiver is ready for programming.

#4. Enter the pairing code and complete the process.

Check Universal Remote Batteries

To check the battery level of your DirecTV Universal remote, you can follow these steps,

#1. Turn on the device that you want to check the battery level.

#2. Point the remote at the device and press and hold any button on your remote.

#3. Observe the light on the remote,

• If the green light stays solid, the batteries are strong.
• If the green light flashes fast or flashes once, the batteries are low and need to be replaced.
• If the green light flashes slowly or doesn’t flash at all, the batteries may be dead and need new batteries.

Soft Reset DirecTV Receiver

If you want to reset your receiver, turn off your DirecTV receiver and simply unplug the device from the supply and wait for 15 seconds. Now, plug the device back into the supply. This will soft reset the device.
