Using Roku is one of the best ways to turn your ordinary television into a smart TV. Both streaming sticks and boxes let you watch various media contents through applications like YouTube, Netflix, Cartoon Network, Tubi TV, and much more. All the Roku devices come with a wireless remote control that pairs and works automatically without you needing to pair. However, if the streaming device fails to recognize your remote, you need to connect it manually. You also need to pair manually when you want to replace the damaged Roku remote.
Re-pair or Reset your Remote
If Roku fails to recognize your remote,
Step 1: Disconnect the Roku from the power source and plug it back after a few minutes.
Step 2: Remove the battery compartment on your remote and long-press the Pairing button until the pairing light begins to flash.
Step 3: The remote will be paired automatically with your streaming device.
Pair or Add New Remote
You can sync two or more remotes with your Roku to play compatible multiplayer games.
Step 1: Launch your Roku and navigate to the Settings menu.
Step 2: Select Remote > Pair remote.
Step 3: Your currently paired remote will appear on the screen.
Step 4: Click the right arrow key on your remote.
Step 5: The instructions to add a new remote will appear on the screen. Follow the instructions and pair your new remote.
Step 6: If the pairing fails, repeat the same procedures to pair it.
Use the Roku Mobile App
Instead of using the remote, you can access the Roku mobile app on your Android device or iPhone to control the streaming device.
Step 1: Download Roku mobile app on your iPhone or Android.
Step 2: Launch the app and sign in with the credentials that you used to set up Roku.
Step 3: Now, use your smartphone to control the Roku player.
How do I pair my Roku remote without the pairing button?
As we said earlier, Roku remote controls will be paired automatically. So you don’t need the help of the pairing button. If you want to pair manually, you can’t do it without the pairing button.
No pairing button on Roku remote
Standard IR remotes don’t have any pairing button. Like other remotes, they will be paired automatically. If it fails to recognize, you need to purchase the new one or you have to use the Roku mobile app.
Roku remote not pairing
Insert two fresh AA batteries on your remote and re-pair your remote with the streaming device. If it fails repeatedly, you need to buy a new remote control.
Roku remote – no light
If the light on Roku hasn’t turned on while manual pairing, replace the batteries of your Roku with the new one.
Now, you know the ways to connect or pair a Roku remote. While using standard IR remotes, the streaming device requires a direct signal from the remote control. The signal will not be received properly if the path is blocked by anything obstacle.
